Dr. Dee Griffin, an alumnus of the Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine, recently received the Amstutz Williams Award, the highest award awarded by the American Cattle Practitioners Association.

The award recognizes Griffin's outstanding service to the industry during his 45-year veterinary career.

"I'm very proud of the CVM from Oregon State University," Griffin said. "We have outstanding teachers, including Dr. Eric Williams, who was named after the AABP honor. Our faculty and staff are strong, capable, and most importantly, help us become the best version of ourselves. I still strive to make They are proud because they have dedicated their lives to me."

Griffin received a DVM degree from OSU in 1975, and then a master's degree in veterinary pathology and animal science from Purdue University in 1978. He spent several years in beef cattle medicine before joining the University of Nebraska, where he taught at the Great Plains College of Veterinary Education Education Center. In 2016, he joined the faculty of the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where he worked until his retirement earlier this year.

During his career, Griffin has won numerous awards for his dedication and service, including the AABP Preventive Medicine Excellence Award, the Veterinary Consultants College of the Year Consultant Award, and the Oregon State University Veterinary College’s Outstanding Alumni Award, etc.

"Over the years, I have received more recognition than I deserve, including this, but even being inducted into the Cattle Breeders Hall of Fame is not as important to me as it was when I was recognized by the University's Distinguished Alumni," Griffin said. "We don't need to beat OU in a football match because this is a beautiful day to be alumni."

The Amstutz Williams Award recognizes the long-term outstanding service of the late Dr. Harold E. Amstutz (who served as the secretary, treasurer and executive vice president of AABP until 1993) and the late Bovine Practitioner and Proceedings editor Dr. Eric I. Williams Booked from 1969 to 1998.

Since its establishment in 1986, the award has only been awarded to 11 people.
